American Advantages
Americans fought on their own ground
They had a widespread acquaintance with firearms
They used superior rifles (better range and accuracy)
Many Americans had experience from the French and Indian War
They were strong allies with the French
American Disadvantages
Army lack training and discipline- desertions and short term enlistments
Shortages-Ammo, food, clothing, medicine
Loyalist- at least 1/3 of population
Lacked a real navy
British Advantages
The British had a well trained, equipped, and disciplined force
They had the best navy (able to protect coast and supply lines)
They had cooperation with Loyalists and Indians
The British were able to hire German mercenaries (Hessians)
British Disadvantages
Long distance
Never adapted their fighting style
Failed to use Loyalists effectively
Used smoothbore muskets
Underestimate enemy
